I'm dialect coach Joel Goldes and I can coach any dialect of spoken English. In addition to all of the most-requested dialects (I'm expert with British, American, Irish, French, German, New York, Southern and countless other accents) I specialize in the less well-known; I have recently taught Uzbek, Mozambique and Azeri accents.
I coach the Tony-Award winning Broadway musical, Come From Away, running not only on Broadway in New York City but also across North America. It's also running in London's West End and in Australia. Come From Away features 12 actors playing 84 characters in at least 13 different accents.
I created an accent of the future for the sci-fi feature After Earth, starring Will and Jaden Smith.
Kevin Costner won the 2012 Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Mini-series after I prepped him in a West Virginia accent for Hatfields & McCoys.
In addition to coaching many commercials, I coached the American-born Orbit Gum Girl in an English accent for three years of national campaigns for Wrigley/BBDO.

I trained as an actor, and always loved doing accents. Part of my graduate training at the University of California at Irvine was three years of daily voice and speech classes. It was at UCI that I learned dialects systematically, and I began to teach undergraduate classes there while earning my Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA).
Everywhere I worked as an actor (first at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, and later in New York City) I would also either dialect coach plays or work with actors privately teaching them dialects. As my career moved from acting to directing in New York, I continued to coach dialects, with this part of my career eventually taking over. My work as an actor and a director uniquely qualifies me as a dialect coach: not only can I guide you in the subtleties of a new accent, I can also help you explore that accent within your character's given circumstances. I'm conversant in the language of acting and I enjoy working with actors, so you'll have my empathetic ear.
Please note: Unfortunately, I'm unable to respond to specific inquiries about how to become a dialect coach. I can only speak to my own experience, and have outlined my career path above.
